HOMEGROWN PROMPTS
WRITING PROMPTS
- As people grow, what aspects of their life (people, objects, places) grow with them and what stays the same?
- How does growth occur within groups or across generations?
How does someone’s environment promote or prohibit growth? How can people grow despite obstacles in their environment? - What is something that you would tell your younger self, knowing what you know now?
- How can you highlight the way growth can be both ugly and beautiful?
- How do parts of ourselves expire or rot as we continue to grow?
- How can you use connections to the physical growth of plants as a metaphor for other forms of growth?
ART PROMPTS
- How can you portray the connection between growth in nature and growth in humans?
- Show a series of images depicting growth or change, like stages of metamorphosis. Is your subject a person, or an object? What caused it to undergo this change?
- Take inspiration from botanical prints and diagrams, and show a more analytical perspective to the organic nature of change.
- How do things change as you age? How does that show in a physical form? (wrinkles, flower buds, tree trunk rings, height) Show the differences between youth and age.
- How can new life or progress come out of the remains of something else? Show a rebirth/renewal through your artwork.
- Depict a symbiotic relationship that compels growth between organisms and people.
